5 out of 5 stars Great Beverage Fridge!
Vicki L. Anderson

We have had several beverage centers at various houses but they did not keep pop and beer as cold as we prefer. We were leary to order an appliance over the Internet sight unseen, but this Electrolux unit was the exact size and appearance that we were looking for plus all the reviews indicated that it keeps drinks cold. It arrived within a week, was easy to install, looks beautiful, and keeps pop and beer very cold...we keep it set at 35 degrees, which most units can't achieve. Also, the shelves slide out so it is easy to stock the fridge and/or grab things from the back. We are thrilled with this purchase!

5 out of 5 stars Yes, this is the beverage fridge to get!

Like so many other reviewers here, I had another beverage center (Magic Chef MCBC58DST from Home Depot) that flaked out on me after 4 1/2 years (not bad based on what I'm reading about that unit and many other brands as well). After being able to cool to typically around 41 degrees, it now would not cool below 55 degrees, and formed ice patches on the rear wall). From research here and elsewhere, parts and labor to repair the Magic Chef would cost me on the order of the $429 I originallyl paid for it, so decided on the strategy of investing more up front on a new unit with the hope that better quality components would result in a longer lifespan.Let me suggest this up front: given all the people on the web who report the failure of beverage coolers of across almost every brand out there after the first year and before 3 years, buy an extended (preferably 5-year) warranty with *any* brand and model of beverage cooler you go with--and make sure it is a parts AND labor warranty, not just parts. Many have stated that though the parts were covered with whatever warranty they had, the labor often still exceeded either the cost of the parts and/or the purchase price of the unit, so they still were at a loss. So, I bought this unit locally here in Atlanta from ApplianceSmart, in addition to the aforementioned 5 year in-home parts and labor warranty for and additional $149. And get this: if I don't use the warranty in the 5 years, then I can get the $149 warranty price refunded (any yes, they do have a website and ship).Pros: I feel there are many....- Very stylish in its appearance! The stainless steel polishes up beautifully with little effort. Quite classy, if not downright stunning.- The lighting in the unit is powerful (4 overhead white LED lights), and the hi and lo adjustability of the light intensity is very handy for displaying what's in the case for your guests when you are having a party, etc.- I find it runs very quietly, much more so than the Magic Chef unit it replaces. Truly hardly noticeable.- It cools very quickly--initial cool down from a 73 degree room temperature to 36 degrees took only about 1.5 hours (empty)! Moreover, this unit can achieve almost 34 degrees, which is true refrigerator temperatures. It actually let's you set the range from 35 degrees to 65 degrees, but I put two digital thermometers in the unit and they both showed 34.2 and 34.3 degrees on the middle shelf. So your drinks are not just "cool" as coolers typically deliver, they are straight-up cold if you like!- The slide out shelves are exceedingly helpful when it's time to restock. I used to have to try to reach into the back of my previous cooler to get to drinks that remained in the back in order to take them out, put new drinks in the back and put the older drinks in the front so they finally get used and don't just stay in the back of the cooler forever and get stale (think skunked beer). The slide out shelves let you reach everything in the fridge easily from overhead.- Versatile configuration. I am using mine as a pure beverage center, as I also own a dual-zone wine fridge just for my wines. As such, I took the included wine rack out of the bottom of this unit so I could use the bottom floor of the fridge as an additional shelf for beer, sodas, water, and juices. I was able to space the top two adjustable shelves such that long-neck beers (e.g., Coronas) fit easily on the top shelf with about 1/2 inch of height clearance, 10 oz. sodas fit easily on the middle shelf, and long-neck beers can again fit on the bottom floor shelf of the unit.- Large capacity: this is the 6 cubic foot cooler, which means some extra space over the typical 5.5 or 5.7 cubic feet you will find in other brands (this has the potential to create a con as well, though -- see below).Cons: these are subjective, of course, but worth calling out for awareness:-- This is the downside of the pro listed above about the large capacity: This unit is 6 cubic feet, which is larger than the 5.5 or 5.7 cubic foot capacity of most 24" beverage coolers on the market. This extra space comes in part via the very large, vault-like door on this cooler. As several other reviewers note, you need to ensure you have the clearance to open this somewhat oversized door in your application--particularly if you plan to place the unit within 3 inches of a wall against which it will open. If you cannot open the door to about 87 degrees, then you cannot fully take advantage of the slide-out shelves, as they will bump into your partially opened door. Additionally, this unit is a bit taller than other 24' coolers, so be sure to check the dimensions and ensure your space is tall enough (especially if you are doing a built-in install under a counter). The unit *barely* cleared the countertop above when I slid it in, as the top door hinge adds another 1/2 inch of height you have accommodate. I had to crank all of the adjustable legs completely in, and remove the plastic cover from over the hinge in order to get it under the same counter that the Magic Chef came out of in my case, so just be mindful of your space.-- A surprising material choice: though I would expect 99% of purchasers of a unit in this price range will choose a built-in application, thus making this con relatively moot, I would have preferred if Electrolux had provided a solid metal rear cover for the compressor and evaporator compartment on the rear of the cooler. instead, it is a flimsy, very inexpensive cardboard cover, as you would see on old refrigerators from 25 years ago. Again, not much of a practical matter if your unit is enclosed in a built-in installation, but for the price point, you'd expect to at least see the solid metal cover many much less expensive units include (my former $429 Magic Chef unit is a case in point). I like to think that Electrolux instead decided to invest the money in the internal components and features of the unit rather than this hidden cover, but then I tend to be an optimist.-- Bottom is warmer than the middle and top: be aware that the bottom of the unit stays about 7 degrees warmer than the middle and top. I suppose this is why it is set up out of the box to also handle wine so long as it's on the bottom. Just something to be aware of if you want to keep beer for example on the bottom shelf--it will be warmer than the temperature you set the unit by those 7 or so degrees.-- Price: certainly I cannot pretend I would have not mind spending maybe half this price to get half of a normal sized refrigerator unit at a full sized price. Given the track record of just about every beverage cooler brand out there, I like to hope that the additional cost will result in greater longevity. Still, as I said before, it's more than prudent to back a purchase like this up with an extended full warranty well beyond the 1-year included warranty to ensure you get at least 5 years of service without additional costs. So, one week in and based on my previous 5 years experience with both a beverage cooler and a dual-zone wine fridge, I *highly* recommend this unit--the pros far outweigh the cons. And with the full warranty for 5 years, I have some relative peace of mind for a good while should one of the many nightmare operational failure scenerios come visiting anytime soon! Read more ›

5 out of 5 stars High end unit but worth it
Bruce A.

Did a lot of research before purchasing this unit. Installation was in an island where drawer and microwave once set so we had to modify the island which was already standard cabinet dimensions. Many beverage centers had poor reviews on longevity, coldness, noise, etc. I can honestly say this unit is well worth the money. It is a high end unit. The LED lights, its quietness, stainless and glass construction, extendable glass shelves (2), digital controls on the top of the door, and its ability to get to 36 degrees confirm this. It has been installed and operating for 3 months without issues and it keeps soft drinks and beer perfectly. This upper shelf is tall enough for beer bottles and water bottles while the second shelf will only hold 12 oz cans and both shelves hold many. The lower rack is angled for wine bottles (or Gatorade, etc). I highly recommend this cooler.
