We recently remodeled our small eat-in kitchen. I choose this model because it fits into a 33 inch opening. Also, counter depth is nice because things don't get lost way in back so easy. This unit has a swing open freezer door, but they also make it in a pull out drawer style freeze, the RB197 model. My opinion is the pull out drawer is OK on deeper units, but doesn't open far enough on the counter depth. Go with the swing style door on the RB195 if going counter depth. We have ours boxed in pretty tight between a pantry and tall end panel. Definitely not meeting Samsung's operating clearance specs, but I vented the wall behind the fridge into the cellar stairs. After about 3 months I can say we are very happy with this fridge. It doesn't run much and is very quite when it does.

3 out of 5 stars Defective RB195ACBP and defective icemaker

Purchased in June of 2011. In July 2012 water began to collect inside and underneath the bins, and to freeze. Food in the bins also froze. Then the fans began to make noises. Then ice appeared on the back wall (inside). Fans totally stopped. So much for "twin cooling".The only way to keep food cold was to place it against back wall but that also froze the part nearer the wall. I unplugged it and it took all weekend to melt the ice on the back wall. Put everything back in, started it up, and it worked okay again...for about five weeks when all the same things happened. Meanwhile, the ice machine had broken in the freezer. I had hoped that shutting down the ref. to defrost it might get it going again. But it is still not working properly....sometimes it makes ice, every few weeks maybe. Then it stops. Both a ref. and ice maker ought to last more than 13 months, regardless of what a warranty states. I have contacted Samsung customer service and so far have gotten inane responses that essentially are apologies that I do not "like" something about my ref. I have lost a lot of time dealing with this defective item and also lost a lot of food. I can only shop for a fewthings at a time. I am asking Samsung to replace this defective ref. with a new one or repair it and either way at no cost to me. I will report on what they do or do not do. If they do not meet this reasonable request I will never buy a Samsung product again and will tell everyone I know about my experience, at every opportunity, for the rest of my life. In fact, I met an acquaintance today at the Sears appliance section looking for a ref. and I told him what happened.**** Update **** May 27, 2013Upgrade from 1 Star to 3 StarsThis past Monday, the Samsung repair person came, saw that whatI had reported was true, and said he had to order parts and wouldreturn. This was after having got first a verbal then emailed promisethat Samsung would repair my Ref. even though it was out of warrantyby about 8 months. The customer service people were very professionaland I only had to explain the hardship I had experienced and to ask themif they would please repair it for them to volunteer to do so, free of charge.Because of this, I add one Star. The repair man came back on Friday but was very late...it caused me tohave to pick up my son early from school to suit his schedule. Nevertheless,he did come and he was very professional and did what had to be done tomake the Ref and Icemaker work again. Now everything is working perfectly. So the repairman earned a Star as well, bringing the total to 3 Stars. So if the Ref goes on working well for at least five years, I will feelI got my monies' worth. When it works well, this is a very nice Ref., but itwas a lot of trouble and of course I would rather have no problems, so Icannot give it more than 3 Stars. I believe part of the problem was this was a new design, so in future Iwould think twice about buying a newly designed machine of any kind or brand, but I was treated fairly by Samsung under the circumstances; that is to theircredit.Rachel Read more ›

5 out of 5 stars Excellent addition to your kitchen!

I have had my fridge for over 2 years, no issues at all.It is easy to clean, lots of space. The only thing that bugs me a bit is the bottom freezer drawers, you have to tug on them a bit, and say you are taking something like an ice cream pail or bowl out, you have to almost take the drawer off its tracks.Great product, looks very nice and sleek in your kitchen.

1 out of 5 stars Major waste of money--you WILL be disappointed

Warning--DON'T BUY SAMSUNG!!!!!!!!!!Major waste of money--you WILL be disappointed! (And broke.)Almost all of their models have major problems that can't be fixed. Samsung will do nothing for you. It might work for a short time, but you will start to experience ice build-up behind the plastic on the inside back panel of the fridge and it won't keep food cold in the fridge or freezer. Water will run into the crispers and the fan ices up and breaks, etc. etc. You can fix these problems, but much to your dismay, two months later you have to fix the same problem. I have one of these refrigerators, looks just liike this one except the model # is RB215LABP and most other model # have the same problem. There is a laawsuit against Samsung for all of these refrigerators. DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!!!! Just check it out by doing a search or check reviews online.

1 out of 5 stars SAMSUNG does NOT acknowledge their fridge has a design

Letter to Consumer Reports:I bought this SAMSUNG RF266ABRS fridge because it was recommended by Consumer Reports in August 2009. This fridge - and other SAMSUNG fridges - should be taken off the recommended list because there is an inherent design defect that causes ice buildup on the evaporator coils.First there is a rattling noise as the fan hits the ice buildup.[...]Then the noise stops when the ice completely blocks the fan but then there is no more cooling happening.[...]There is even a class action lawsuit against SAMSUNG fridges:[...]Please look into this Samsung ice buildup problem. The Samsung fridges should definitively not be on the recommended list but put on the "do not buy" list. The ice buildup issue occurs about 1 year after purchase. SAMSUNG is not acknowledging the problem and does not help its customers.Letter to SAMSUNG:I am deeply unsatisfied on how SAMSUNG handled the warranty policy with my SAMSUNG Fridge French Door Model RF266ABRS. This fridge was defective starting Year 1 and was not repaired appropriately the 1st time. All was done on the 1st service visit was to defrost the evaporator - not fixing the problem itself.Of course, the problem reoccurred 1 year later and every year after that. Since the technician explained the problem, how to solve it and SAMSUNG customer service gave me a hard time because it was a few days over the 1 year purchase date, I dealt with it personally by unplugging the unit and let it sit unplug for 24 hours. Not a satisfactory resolution, just a quick workaround, until I got fed up with losing food and asked for SAMSUNG to resolve this problem once and for all.First this problem should have been resolved the 1st visit. Secondly I learned recently from numerous complaints and videos on the web that this is a defective design in SAMSUNG fridges that causes the ice buildup on the evaporator. Here is a video showing the defrost sensor modification kit to fix evaporator ice buildup. This is for the SAMSUNG RSH1 fridge but it is the same modification that was done on my fridge by the repair technician who came to my house: [...]Many SAMSUNG fridges have the same cooling design thus sharing the same ice buildup issue.I was charged $104.68 to fix SAMSUNG own defective design! This is outrageous and no decent company would shift the cost from itself to their customers . It shows utter disrespect for its own customers, not counting the monetary damage. Sir, should I remind you that your customers are your most important assets and should be your priority number one!SAMSUNG should have done everything in its power to help its loyal customers by fixing its defective fridges FREE OF CHARGE.The technician explained that he had to move the defrost sensor away from the evaporator in order to let the defrost cycle run longer and completely defrost the evaporator from any ice buildup. He also put a wider drain clip. The older clip was too small. It would get iced up and not let water drain away from the evaporator. There is also a new metal clip that attaches to the heating element and goes inside the drain clip to heat any ice there if needed so the drain cannot get clogged. In addition, a new seal kit - put on the market by SAMSUNG 3 months ago - was used to seal the evaporator compartment to prevent moisture to get in and improve circulation airflow provided by the fan.
